Christin Godette, escaped from Wayne County Jail

An inmate was recaptured late Monday after escaping from the Wayne County Jail, authorities said Wednesday.

A detention officer at the jail was removing a mop bucket from Christin Ray Godette's cell when Godette beat and choked him to the point that the officer passed out, authorities said. Godette used the officer's handcuffs to secure him and used his keys to escape, authorities said.

Detention officers, Wayne County deputies and Goldsboro police officers used dogs to track Godette to the West Haven area of Goldsboro, where he was arrested about a half-hour after his escape, authorities said.

The detention officer who was attacked was treated at and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

Godette faces felony charges in the assault and escape, authorities said.

I hope when they caught him they taught him a lesson.

I have to agree with one post, this officer was probably too friendly with this inmate. As a matter of fact, the entire family is trouble. I'm surprised the mother is not in jail. She went for bad. Not sure if this is the same young man, but one of the brothers (I think they are twins), once allowed two dogs to attack a kitten, until someone spoke up and called animal control. Thankfully, the kitten didn't die.

"I work in corrections and, probably, either security measures were not followed OR the "guard" was too friendly with the inmate"

This does not sound right to me but you corrections officers know more. Is it possible for anyone, especially an inmate, to be able to get out of a county jail or state prison with a set of keys. I've been in a few being escorted and you can't go far down a hallway without someone having to open a door electronically. To be able to leave the entire building with a set of keys just doesn't add up, I wouldn't think the warden could do that.

Just for the record, this is Polar Bear. I was somehow signed in to studley's account. Oops!

As a former corrections officer, I think that North Carolina should initiate a policy where if an inmate assaults an officer and is found guilty of same, an automatic five years of actual time is added to their sentence. This would help protect those who must do a very difficult job that most of the population either can't or wouldn't do. It's time we as citizens stand up and help those that protect us from the worse that society can dish up.....
