Four residents of a mobile home died Sunday in a fire in the Woods Mobile Home Park at 3990 U.S. Highway 117 South near Pike Creek Road.

The Burgaw, Rocky Point and Maple Hill fire departments responded to the fire shortly after 3 a.m.

The first firefighters to arrive found flames coming from the front and back of the single-wide home.

The bodies of three victims – two adults and one child –  were found in the master bedroom at one end of the home. Another child's body was in a bedroom at the other end.

The bodies were sent to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for identification.

A fifth resident escaped with burns and was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The State Bureau of Investigation and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have been called to assist the Pender County Fire Marshal's and Sheriff's offices in the investigation.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday evening.
