Cary, N.C. — Stores are pulling some snacks from shelves in response to a salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter.
Kellogg Company issued a "hold" Thursday for Austin and Keebler brand Toasted Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Crackers, Cheese and Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers and Peanut Butter-Chocolate Sandwich Crackers.
The crackers, which are manufactured in Cary, contain peanut butter from Peanut Corporation of America, which Kellogg said has been the focus of a salmonella investigation.
The move means Kellogg will hold any inventory in its control, remove the products from retail-store shelves and encourage customers and consumers not to eat the products until regulatory officials complete their investigation.
Consumers with questions or who would like a product refund can call the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 888-314-2060.
