Wake holiday recycling season comes to a close

Raleigh, N.C. — Wake County's collection of holiday trees, boxes and wrapping paper for recycling concludes on Monday.

Residents can bring Christmas trees (remove ornaments, lights and tinsel); corrugated cardboard; chip board (paper roll tubes, cereal boxes, etc.); glossy magazines/catalogs; greeting cards; SBS board (shirt boxes, etc.); and wrapping paper (no bows or foil) to one of the following county convenience centers any day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Convenience Center #1 – 1050 Old Stage Road in Garner
Convenience Center #2 – 6000 Old Smithfield Road in Apex
Convenience Center #4 – 3600 Yates Mill Pond Road in South Raleigh
Convenience Center #7 – 9008 Deponie Drive in North Raleigh
Convenience Center #11 – 5051 Wendell Boulevard between Wendell and Zebulon

Trees are also being accepted at three Wake County parks daily through Monday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Blue Jay Point County Park – 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road in Raleigh
Harris Lake County Park – 2112 County Park Drive in New Hill
Lake Crabtree County Park – 1400 Aviation Parkway in Morrisville

To date, the county has recycled more than 2,900 trees into mulch to be used for county park trails.

The Census Bureau estimates that by July 1, 2007, Wake County's population had reached 832,970 residents. 2,900 recycled trees is a drop in the bucket compared to the quantity of trees which was dumped on the road or trashed in landfills. Wake County really needs to get the word out on recycling.
