Smithfield, N.C. — A pedestrian died around 11 p.m. Tuesday after a tractor-trailer hit her on Interstate 95 in Johnston County near mile marker 95.
Troopers say a Saia Motor Freight truck hit Margaret Kennen, 43, as she walked across the southbound lanes from the median. The truck driver will not face charges.
Kennen was from Scranton, Pa., officials said. Authorities said they were not sure why she walked across the highway.
Troopers blocked part of the highway for several hours after the crash.

The unfortunate fatality a few weeks ago on I-40 near Rock Quarry occured because someone broke down in the median and was trying to get off the highway.
So sad.
