Raleigh, N.C. — A woman was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving while impaired after a fatal wreck in north Raleigh Saturday. The two-car collision happened just before 4 p.m. on Glenwood Avenue and Brier Creek Parkway.
Police say Linda Ratliff of Durham was driving a Dodge minivan when she turned in front of a Volkswagen driven by Suzanne Pratt of Raleigh. All eight of the occupants in the two vehicles were transported to Duke University Medical Center.
Pratt's mother-in-law, Minnie Lee Wade, 82, of Michigan, was killed. Passenger Angelene Greenard, also of Michigan, who is Pratt's step-daughter, suffered a broken nose and bruises.
Other occupants of the minivan were Bruce Ratliff, Ronie Shaw, Antwan Shaw and Ronnie Ratliff.
Ratliff wore a sling on her arm Monday during her first court appearance. She requested a public defender and returned to the Wake County Jail.
Wade was in town visiting for the holidays. The three women were traveling to the Brier Creek community to admire the houses, Pratt told WRAL News on Sunday.
Linda Ratliff was charged with involuntary manslaughter, DWI, no operator’s license and a red light violation, police said. The wreck caused a traffic back up in the area.
