Car hits Apex credit union

e-mail print friendly

A woman accidentally drove through the front door of a credit union in Apex around noon Wednesday, police said.

The woman, 87, was stopping to check if the North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union at 1056 Vision Drive, off Williams Street/N.C. Highway 55, was open, officers said.

As she pulled into a parking space,  she hit the gas pedal, instead of the brake, rolling right through the front doors.

The bank was closed for Christmas Eve, so business was not disrupted. The woman, whom police did not identify, was not injured. Police said no charged will be filed.

And if the driver was a teenager they'd have been charged with something no doubt.

There could have very well been serious injuries from this. I have to agree, it gets to a certain point where older people should be driven around and should not be behind the wheel of heavy machinery.

Take away her license. Obviously, her reaction times are terrible, and most of them don't see well enough to be driving. I'm sorry if that hinders their "freedom" and may be inconvient for family, but isn't that better than having them kill themselves and possibly others?

Exactly what I was thinking patriot.

I use that credit union, the stairs in front are high enough to make driving a car into the front door quite a feat. The police definitely need to check her bac.
