Chapel Hill, N.C. — University of North Carolina President Emeritus William Friday was recovering at home Monday after suffering a minor heart attack last week.
Friday, 88, sent he went to UNC Hospitals Dec. 15 with shortness of breath, and he was released the following day. He said he suffered no damage to his heart valve, and his cardiologist gave him a clean bill of health Monday.
He attributed the episode to eating too much salt and too much fat, and he said he has adjusted his diet.
Friday, who headed the UNC system from 1956 to 1986, was in such good spirits Monday that he was making peanut brittle to give to friends as a Christmas present.
