Man killed when car hits tree

A Durham man died when his car ran off the road and struck a tree along Umstead Road early Sunday, the state Highway Patrol said.

Stefan Aaron Jeglinski, 26, was going east when his 2003 Acura went off the left side of Umstead Road, near Craig Road, at 3:12 a.m. The Acura struck a fire hydrant, overturned and then hit a tree.

Jeglinski was killed, and a passenger, Christopher James Sprague, 26, was injured, troopers said. Sprague was in fair condition Monday at Duke Hospital.

Jeglinski was exceeding the speed limit, according to the wreck report.
