Rocky Mount, N.C. — An accident involving two trains and one vehicle occurred on Main Street near Goldleaf Street around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Rocky Mount Sgt. B.R. Carlton said.
A driver apparently went around the crossing gate and tried to cross the railroad tracks even though a train was coming, Carlton said. The driver was trying to beat a CSX train that was traveling south but failed to notice an Amtrak train traveling north, police spokeswoman Megan Hanks said.
The Amtrak train hit the vehicle and pushed into the CSX train.
The driver, 28-year-old Pierre Tucker, of 308 Canary Drive in Rocky Mount, escaped through the passenger side door before either train hit the vehicle. He faces a crossing gate violation and a charge of careless and reckless driving, Hanks said.
Tucker was not injured, Hanks said.
