RALEIGH, N.C. — State troopers identified a man killed while crossing Interstate 40 Monday evening as Diego Lopez Chox, 19, of Raleigh.

Troopers said that alcohol was a factor in the single-car wreck near the Rock Quarry Road exit around 8:30 p.m.

Chox got out of his car, which hit a guardrail, and tried to cross the highway to the median when he was struck by another car.

He died of blunt force trauma at the scene, troopers said. An autopsy will be performed on his body.

Troopers said they will not file charges against the other driver, who was not injured.

Chox's car caught on fire after the wreck, and traffic was backed up for about two hours while troopers worked the scene.

Chox's 20th birthday would have been Sunday.
