A man who had left his crashed car was struck and killed Monday evening on Interstate 40 in Wake County, the state Highway Patrol said.

At about 8:30 p.m., near the Rock Quarry Road exit, a car wrecked into the guardrail and caught fire.

As the driver was trying to cross the highway to the median, he was struck by another car, troopers said.

The man died at the scene, troopers said. The driver whose car struck the pedestrian was not injured.

Troopers withheld both name Monday evening.

Traffic was backed up for about two hours while troopers investigated.

Most of us are smart enough to know that what's not being said on certain media outlets means what we know it means ;-)

I would like to see articles updated more timely as well on wral.com. The N&O article was updated at 204am today with the info of alcohol, fake id, fake SS... I would like to keep wral.com as my news source and would like items updated quicker. About the wreck,,,, glad he did not kill anyone else but his "drunken self". The driver who hit him, should not be sad. This man should have not been driving - period.
