Raleigh, N.C. — A man who had left his crashed car was struck and killed Monday evening on Interstate 40 in Wake County, the state Highway Patrol said.
At about 8:30 p.m., near the Rock Quarry Road exit, a car wrecked into the guardrail and caught fire.
As the driver was trying to cross the highway to the median, he was struck by another car, troopers said.
The man died at the scene, troopers said. The driver whose car struck the pedestrian was not injured.
Troopers withheld both name Monday evening.
Traffic was backed up for about two hours while troopers investigated.
