Raleigh, N.C. — Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher will deliver the commencement address at North Carolina State University's winter graduation ceremony, officials said Wednesday.
Cowher, an N.C. State alumnus, coached the Steelers for 15 years and led them to a win in Super Bowl XL in February 2006. He retired at the end of the 2006 season and now works as an analyst with CBS Sports for the network’s “The NFL Today” show.
During the graduation ceremony, Chancellor James Oblinger will confer honorary degrees on Freeman Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and a leader in the effort to assist minority and low-income students in academic achievement, and Carl E. Wieman, a Nobel Prize-winning professor of physics at the University of British Columbia.
The ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 17 at the RBC Center.
