Maxton, N.C. — Maxton mayor Gladys Dean has a court date in December on a charge that she assaulted another woman at the town's Collard Festival Nov. 8.
Dean was charged with simple assault and released on a promise to appear in court, Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealy said.
He did not provide details of the assault, noting merely that Dean had turned herself in.
The charge she faces is a misdemeanor.
