Raleigh, N.C. — Michelle Young's mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her son-in-law late last month, claiming he is responsible for her daughter's beating death more than two years ago.
Linda Fisher also wants Jason Young to lose property rights to a townhouse the couple once shared, according to a civil summons filed in Wake County District Court.
Michelle and Jason Young lived in the residence at Trinity Square Townhomes in Raleigh prior to moving to 5108 Birchleaf Drive.
Pregnant at the time of her death, Michelle Young, 29, was found lying face down in the bedroom of that house on Nov. 3, 2006. Her 2-year-old daughter, Cassidy, was found unharmed at her side.
Investigators have not made an arrest in the case and have not named any suspects.
Fisher, however, claims Jason Young is liable for his wife's death and wants him to pay compensation to Cassidy and be barred from collecting any life insurance benefits.
Jason Young told investigators he was out of town on business when his wife was killed, but according to search warrants, has generally been uncooperative with investigators.
He talked with authorities the day Michelle Young was killed and later gave fingerprints and DNA samples under a court order.
Jason Young and Cassidy have moved to western North Carolina, where members of his family live. The Birchleaf Drive house was sold earlier this year.
