Pregnant girl reported missing in Durham

Tekenya Wooten missing 12-year-old 10/21

Durham police were searching Thursday for a pregnant 12-year-old girl who has gone missing for the second time in two weeks.

Tekenya Wooten was last seen on Garret Road around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. She was wearing a black flight jacket, black shirt, blue jeans and black Nike shoes.

Tekenya might be in the areas of Maple, Glasson or Gordon streets.

Tekenya was reported missing on Oct. 18, and a Durham police officer found her unharmed on Gordon Street last Friday.

Officers said that Tekenya is under the supervision of the Lenoir County Department of Social Services, but has been placed in Durham. State law prevented them from releasing more about Tekenya's situation, they said, but officers said they are concerned about the girl's safety.

"Laws related to juveniles limit what can be done and said about this case. Tekenya has not committed any criminal act as far as we know," Deputy Police Chief Ron Hodge said.

"We are concerned about her safety and the safety of her unborn child. We are asking anyone who sees her to contact us."

Tekenya has been listed as voluntary runaway, so she does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, Hodge said.

Anyone with information about this case or Tekenya's whereabouts should contact Detective T.M. Ochman at  919-560-4440, ext. 289.
