A man armed with a handgun robbed a First Citizens bank on Broadfoot Avenue Thursday afternoon, police said.

The man entered the bank at 126 Broadfoot Ave. shortly before 3 p.m., investigators said. He displayed the gun and demanded money.

Cashiers handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the robber, and he fled the scene, officers said. His means and direction of travel were unknown.

Police described the robber as a black man in late 20s, about 6 feet tall. He had a thin build and wore a dark jacket. Police warned he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was assisting Fayetteville police detectives with the investigation.

Anyone having information regarding the robbery or suspect is asked to contact the Fayetteville police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers never have to identify themselves.
