A Durham man wanted in an August drive-by shooting surrendered early Monday, police said.

Alton Dewayne “Popeye” Sanders, 24, of Wabash Street, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm within the city limits. He was being held Monday in the Durham County Jail under a $532,500 bond.

The occupants of two vehicles shot a 22-year-old man in the leg and buttocks as he stood outside an apartment building at 1126 S. Hoover Road on Aug. 4, police said.

Equaan Straiter, 19, of Flatford Court, was arrested on Aug. 28 in the shooting and remains in the Durham County Jail, police said.
