Durham police continued this week to search for a missing 12-year-old girl who is pregnant.

Investigators believe that Tekenya Wooten ran away from her home at 3529 Manford Drive on Saturday, Oct. 18. Tekenya is eight months pregnant.

Police Chief Jose Lopez said that Tekenya's disapperance does not meet the requirements for an Amber Alert, but police are "very concerned about her welfare, and we are actively looking for her."

Police described Tekenya as a black girl, standing 5 feet 1 inches tall and weighing 100 pounds. She was last seen with her hair in a ponytail and wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and silver shoes.

She might be in the areas of Maple Street or Glasson Street, police said.

Lopez appealed for the public's help in finding Tekenya.

"We have received calls from concerned members of the community, but we have been unable to locate the missing juvenile," Lopez said. "We ask anyone with information to please call us."

Anyone with information about this case should contact Detective T.M. Ochman at  919-560-4440 ext. 289.

Dumb as this may sound to some of you, the eight month unborn child didn't run away and is also in danger -- real danger -- so why not an Amber Alert? If a five year old ran away, there would be an Amber Alert. What about a ten year old? Is there a legal guideline written into the law on issuing Amber Alerts as to age of a runaway?

12 years old and pregnant. Sad situation for her and more sad for the child. 25 girls were pregnant at my daughters high school last year. A freshman gave birth within a month of starting the year. Parents need to be responsible for their children. Children left to their own devices will make BAD DECISIONS! She isn't being protected or the guardians don't care. More welfare.

Maybe she does not even have parents.

I bet there are things that cannot be told in this case, since she is a minor. What if the father of her child were a minor as well? Amber alert is for abductions...there is probably solid evidence that she was not abducted, otherwise there would be an amber alert..that is how it works, I think. What if someone is hiding her, or she does not want to be found? What if the media is not helping socialize her situation in order to sensationalize the story in a more negative manner...the child needs to be found, and could be being hidden.

she is 12... hope some guy is going to court for rape. isn't that the way it is suppose to work? She did is not a virgin and she is 12...someone should be in trouble...

and i hope she gives that child up for adoption. no 12 year old can raise a child and obviously the parents who raised this one should not be allowed to raise another. they did a bad enough job with the first one.
