Fort Bragg, N.C. — An 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper died early Sunday of a gunshot wound at a barracks room next to Butner Road, authorities said.

Pfc. Matthew R. Grandy, 24, of Wake Forest, was a member of 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He came to the unit in September 2007.

The incident was under investigation Monday by Army authorities, and no details of the shooting were released.

Grandy is survived by his mother and father, Theresa and Alfred Grandy, and a sister, Alisha Grandy, all of Wake Forest.
