Charles Michael Gainey II, 34, of 1200 Cannon Road in Fayetteville, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Clarence Bauer, 79, of Fayetteville.

Cumberland County sheriff's detectives said they believe Gainey robbed and killed Bauer and stole his 2004 white Ford Focus. The car was found in Dunn.

Bauer was found dead at his home at 348 Star Lane on Oct. 4. A state medical examiner determined that he was murdered, but the cause of death was not released.

Detectives interviewed Gainey earlier in the week. They had said Wednesday that they intended to question Paul Mitchell Edge, 47, of Parkton, in the case, but did not explain a connection.

Gainey was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center pending a first court appearance scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m.

This tv station needs to get the facts right before it publishes a story. Paul Mitchell Edge was never questioned by the police, he does not even live in Cumberland County for the last 7 years, nor has he ever lived in Parkton, NC.

Anyone know where Gainey is from originally?

Needless to say, if this guy is found guilty he should be nailed to the wall. Society has got to come down hard against crimes like these.
