e-mail print friendly

A two-vehicle wreck killed one person and injured seven others Thursday afternoon in rural northeastern Orange County.

State troopers said that a minivan going north on Guess Road/N.C. Highway 157 ran a stop sign at N.C. Highway 57 shortly before 5 p.m. The minivan hit the side of a car going east on N.C. 57 and spun around in the intersection.

Minivan passenger Saul Solis-Morales, 22, of Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The seven other people were taken to Durham hospitals. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

Troopers said they plan to charge the minivan's driver, whose name was withheld.

How do you not notice a rumble strip?

I drive thru this intersection twice a day and have noticed that the rumble strips seem to have worn away.

I have never really considered it a dangerous intersection because of the flashing warning lights but that's just me.

How do you not notice a rumble strip?

I dont understand how this happened. I know this intersection well. There are 3 or 4 rumble strips, and a couple of stop x amount of feet signs, and bright red flashing lights!! I never have understood how so many people got killed there. Especialy since all of the warnings have been put up. I bet the folks at the store on that corner have many stories to tell.

there are rumble strips were guess rd. comes to the intersection, and a flashing red and caution light. the problem is it is a blind intersection and judging distance can be very misleading and unless you are very familiar with the area you are at risk when you come upon this area.

Unfortunately, there is a "rumble" strip there... I guess some people still don't notice it. I am originally from that area and it is a bad intersection. I know of several people who have been killed there.
