WRAL News

The Harnett County Board of Education voted Monday to ban corporal punishment in public schools.

Previously, the district allowed corporal punishment after other disciplinary measures failed. Parents were notified after the fact.

District officials said few Harnett County principals used corporal punishment, but they said it was time to eliminate the option altogether.

Apparently the writer of the above comments don't know the difference between discipline and violence. You raise a child from birth with love, affection and discipline - not violence. There is a difference between the fear of a spanking and outright violence - something which I suspect the writer has never experienced. Comments such as the above lead me to believe the writer has absolutely no child raising experience other than the misguided beliefs such as above. I shutter to think what future generations would be like raised with that standard.

It's woth noting that about 27 years ago, on of the most notorious school paddlings in U.S. history took place in Harnett County. The town of Dunn, to be exact. One of the victims testified before Congress and also had a piece about corporal punishment in USA Today (ref: www.nospank.net/shelly2.htm)

hereandnow99, do you honestly have children you have successfully raised? And can you tell me your children didn't mess with drugs, teenage pregnancy, back talk to teachers, and actually be able to hold down a job without being fired? I would be shocked from what I'm reading in your post. Good luck with that!@!@

Nope. No evolving going on here...just the same old caveman "I'll beat some sense into ya" mentality. Sad.

There are other ways to make a point rather than to threaten violence. It's the basis of global diplomacy and economic sanctions. Otherwise, why don't we just bomb, kill and maim everyone with which we disagree?

Resorting to violence just shows that a person is incapable of mentally handling the situation. Do some research. Read. Learn. Stop the physical assaults at home and abroad. hereandnow99 -------------------- Yep Time Out works wonders. Kids think it's a game. Btw spanking and beating the heck aren't the same. Do your research.
