Roseboro, N.C. — Capt. Tony Surles of the Roseboro Police Department surrendered to Sampson County deputies Monday on a charge of using town money for a personal purchase.
Surles is suspected of using a town purchasing account to buy a vehicle transmission.
A two-month investigation by the Sampson County Sheriff's Office and the State Bureau of Investigation produced enough evidence to charge Surles with obtaining property by false pretenses, District Attorney Dewey Hudson decided.
Surles was placed under a $500 unsecured bond.
