Capt. Tony Surles of the Roseboro Police Department surrendered to Sampson County deputies Monday on a charge of using town money for a personal purchase.

Surles is suspected of using a town purchasing account to buy a vehicle transmission.

A two-month investigation by the Sampson County Sheriff's Office and the State Bureau of Investigation produced enough evidence to charge Surles with obtaining property by false pretenses, District Attorney Dewey Hudson decided.

Surles was placed under a $500 unsecured bond.

I know that LEO's do not get large salaries, but it's no excuse for this.

Police Officers should be making more money. How many people go to work and have to worry about being killed, or worse yet, having to take someone else's life. I have been watching pro football games recently and am hearing about these players making millions of dollars a year - and they cannot even catch a football when it is thrown right to them. Then you have police officers who put their life on the line who barely make enough money to survive in many cases - recently there was a article about some small towns in NC paying officers $10.00 an hour with no benefits. I think it should be these police officers making alot of money, and the football players having to scrape by. Who contributes more to society?

Who cares.

another one i know what he did was wrong but cops dont make a big salary. I hope he takes what the punishment given to him and learns from this we are all struggling to live

How did he think he could get away with that?
