Morrisville man charged in fatal Highway 64 accident

A 26-year-old Morrisville man has been charged in a Saturday morning wreck that killed two people in Nash County, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Sivaraj Thevan Pasumala, 26, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle, reckless driving and an unsafe lane change. He was released on an $11,000 bond.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The accident occurred on Highway 64 east close to Highway 581 near Nashville.

Troopers said speed was the main factor in the accident that involved two vehicles traveling together to the Outer Banks. Both vehicles were said to be exceeding the 70 mph speed limit, Trooper J.W. Chrissman said.

Thevan was driving a silver Chevrolet, which was traveling in front of a burgundy Toyota Corolla. The Chevrolet was in the right lane and attempted to merge right when the two vehicles hit each other causing the Corolla to be run into the left shoulder and into the median. The vehicle hit several trees that were in the median.

Troopers were on the scene for about two hours.
