FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Employees were back at the Goodyear plant in Fayetteville Saturday following a two week closure of the plant, officials said.

The plant temporarily closed as part of a nationwide effort to let demand catch up to supply.

Nearly 3,000 employees became out of work when the plant shut down Aug. 16, said Daryll Jackson, president of the Steelworkers Union Local 959. The plant normally produces around 30,000 tires a day.

Workers were at the plant on Saturday preparing it to resume production. Production will resume on Tuesday, following the Labor Day holiday.
