Fake grass owner losing turf war

A Raleigh man who installed fake grass at his home said Thursday has been told by the homeowner’s association that his grass has to go.

Les Bernstein made the $6,500 investment this May, but it wasn't long before the Falls River Community Association weighed in. The homeowners association sent a letter telling Bernstein that he needed signatures from neighbors because he did not get prior approval for the artificial grass.

He said he gathered the signatures and presented them to the board, but he got back a letter saying he has to remove the artificial grass by Sept. 30.

Bernstein attended a Wednesday night homeowner’s association meeting to appeal the decision, but received another letter on Thursday saying his grass was not up to code. The association will make a final decision behind closed doors, he said.

Bernstein is contacting state and federal officials for help in keeping the grass.

I think "4 Life" has got himself quite a thinker...I dunno where Falls River is, but in my yard I have the prettiest looking 100 pircent plastic flowers - they done look good all year long - no weedin and no waterin. Sure sounds like that fancy plastic grass would look aussem in my yard.

FESCUE 4 LIFE, are you sure you know the issues here? This decision is an outrage. I'd love fake grass and it sure would keep the weeds from growing up into my Mustang. Every week for the last 5 years, my grandaddy has to mow around that wreck and trim the weeds back. Besides, I'd love a nice bit of turf to tee off - just like in Tin Cup. It'd save me $8 a week rather than pay some old drivin range. Heck, if that old stuffy neighborhood don't want you - move on out to Wendell. Fore!!

Why is everyone hating on FESCUE. I love FESCUE. Artifical is out and FESCUE is in!!!! Quit being a bunch of whinning babies and if you do not like HOA's, then quit living in a place where HOA's rule. It's your own fault.

Reason #5011 why I will never live in a neigborhood with an HOA. Whoever pays the mortgage gets to make all the decisions about the property. Now if they want to pay for my house and land, I will be more than glad to plant whatever kind of grass they want me to.

Danay I completely agree with your comments except the last part... "The last time I heard about a small group of people having all of the power over a bunch of people who do ALL the work, it was called COMMUNISM!" What do we call the top 5% of the US that controls the means of production? Elites!
