The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Saturday morning incident that left one man dead.

Debbie Tanna, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, said that Robert Lee Hubbard, age and last address unknown, broke into a shed at a home on the 9400 block of Hillsborough in Linden around 1:30 am.

Michael Crosby, 51, and his brother Joseph Crosby, 55, were using the shed as a temporary residence while Michael Crosby's house was under construction, Tanna said.

Tanna said Hubbard struck Michael in the head with a crow bar. The two Crosby brothers were able to subdue Hubbard, but before authorities arrived, Hubbard died.

Hubbard’s body was sent to UNC Hospital for an autopsy.

Michael Crosby was taken to the hospital with head injuries. He was expected to be fine, Tanna said.

Deputies said they do not know what motivated Hubbard to break into the shed or what caused his death.

Hubbard's death is not considered a homicide at this time, Tanna said.
