Raleigh, N.C. — The new Blount Street Parking Deck downtown will open Wednesday, officials said.
The deck is at 314 Blount St., between Martin and Davie streets, and has entrances on Blount Street and on Wilmington Street.
Public parking will be available in 704 of the deck's 1,232 spaces. Of the public spaces, 472 are allocated for monthly parking and the remaining 232 spaces are for hourly and daily parking.
The deck will be open for pay parking from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Attendants will be on duty until 10 p.m. on weekdays, but there will be no charge for time spent in the deck after 7 p.m. during the week or all day on Saturdays and Sundays, except during special events.
The deck will support the nearby 33-story RBC Plaza mixed-use tower, which includes the new headquarters for RBC Bank, and current and future development in the downtown area.

Downtown is a commercial district so of course it's for commerce. Again, it costs money to build parking decks so you have to pay for parking. There is no room in a downtown area for sprawl parking like in most strip shopping centers like Cameron Village. You can't park right next to the front door. Downtowns don't work like that.
Now do you actually have a comment about the article?

dpknc84 - I quit going downtown because I got tired of being ripped off for parking. Yes it costs money, I understand that you apparently do not understand that the point of putting enterprises down there is to generate commerce. Charging for parking is a rip off. Unfortunately too many people value their money too little, so consequently you get ripped off. Enjoy it.
