Expect Labor Day DWI crackdown

e-mail print friendly

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies are increasing patrols and setting up checkpoints as part of a Labor Day “Booze It & Lose It” campaign.

Law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in the program, designed to discourage and punish driving while intoxicated.

In the two weeks leading up to Labor Day 2007, more than 500 alcohol-related crashes were reported statewide, according to the sheriff's office.

"If you plan to imbibe this Labor Day weekend, let someone else do the driving,” Sheriff Earl R. Butler said.

bs101fly, it's because of people like you why these crackdowns are necessary. Now, if only we can get some judges with backbones to actually give these clowns more than a slap on the wrist, the crackdowns would truly make a difference.

The police know this well. You can not outrun a motorola. If you listen to the radio and have a CB or other communications device like a cellular phone, those who get the word find other ways of getting to where they need to go.

bs101fly - I've seen folks try that and the other officers waiting up the road nail them - and add a charge of resisting and obstructing - best just don't drink before you drive! Have a great holiday.

There's nothing illegal about driving after drinking as long as your blood alcohol content is under the legal limit. It's not against the law to have a couple or three beers and drive home. Many police officers do it very frequently. Drink responsibly and don't drive when you've had too much and you have nothing to worry about. It's not against the law.

big whoop, we'll see the blue lights before we get there and take a side road or do a U turn. Works EVERY time! you people are a joke with your crack downs.
