Cary, N.C. — The Town Council on Thursday rejected a proposal to allow local residents to own chickens.
The proposal would have reclassified chickens so residents would be able to have coops in their backyards. Current rules require at least an acre of property and a special permit to own chickens.

Our mail boxes don't match, we don't water our lawns because we need the water for the fruit trees and veggie gardens, and everyone is happy because, well, we're too busy in our own yards to notice the neighbors' yards."
