Police: Sanford teen's death can be solved

Dana Shorb, 17, was found dead at her Sanford home in April 2008.

Sanford police said the death of a teenager at her home in April is being investigated as a homicide.

Dana Shorb, 17, was found dead on April 26 in the shower of the home at 210 Bounty Lane that she shared with her boyfriend and their child.

An autopsy, released Wednesday, found that Shorb died of a stab wound to the chest. She was also stabbed in the arms, head, neck and chest 11 times.

Police had declined to classify Shorb's death as murder, even after the autopsy called her death "violent and suspicious." Early Thursday evening, Capt. Dave Smith said the death was indeed a case of homicide and that he was confident it would be solved.

Smith said police had questioned Shorb's boyfriend, but that he was not a suspect.

Shorb's mother declined an interview with WRAL News, but said her daughter's life ended too soon.
