Dana Shorb, 17, was found dead at her Sanford home in April 2008.
Dana Shorb, 17, was found dead at her Sanford home in April 2008.

Sanford police refused to call the stabbing death of a teenager in April a homicide Thursday, saying the case is still under investigation.

Dana Shorb, 17, was found dead on April 26 in the shower of the home at 210 Bounty Lane that she shared with her boyfriend and their child.

An autopsy released Wednesday found that Shorb died of a stab wound to the chest. She was also stabbed in the arms, head, neck and chest 11 times. The report called Shorb's death "violent and suspicious."

Police said when the investigation is complete, they will hand it over to the Lee County district attorney, but declined to classify it as a crime.

Shorb's mother declined an interview with WRAL News, but said her life ended way too soon.

Again the media has done it again- At first I thought all of this was political between the two departments. -after reading this article-I am re-thinking the situation-However I am not saying there isn't some political strategy going on. However I will say-I am sure both department have faults(most agencies does)-however they are some good ..You just don't hear alot about it..I guess that would be to be boring.. The media is telling you what they want you to hear. For one, if you notice the autopsy wasn't completed until July 22.. Further more- I know the Detectives work very hard at their jobs and I am very proud of them. They put in alot of longs hours. I know there are alot wise cracks -however if you truely new the truth and the people- alot of these comments wouldn't be made.

"It doesn't take much to get a badge for the Sanford PD. I hear you have to send off 4 proofs of purchase through C racker Jack to get a shiny badge! Now you run along and continue to defend these morons WHO ARE APPOINTED TO PROTECT AND SERVE ME AND MY FAMILY!"

No, actually that's how you get a badge from the Lee County Sheriff's Dept. Well, that and failing BLET.

"Take care and next time you have an emergency,,, dont call 911, solve it yourself."

I am sure I could solve just as many cases as the bungled Sanford PD. They remind me of Reno 911. Here is a bright idea...Let us go and post some videos on YOUTUBE! Yeah, let's do that so these drug dealers can get off scott free! It doesn't take much to get a badge for the Sanford PD. I hear you have to send off 4 proofs of purchase through C racker Jack to get a shiny badge! Now you run along and continue to defend these morons WHO ARE APPOINTED TO PROTECT AND SERVE ME AND MY FAMILY!

bendover, I am not questioning your opinion, after all everybody has one. But you cant make blanket statements about all officers when a couple make mistakes. I am sure you have made mistakes as we all have. You appear to be chastising innocent officers by your comments. Sometimes, if you knew anything about investigations, it is imperative to solving a case to keep it out of the public. If it was the case of a serial killer, I am sure the authorities would have made that public. You seem to have no concern whatsoever for the victim nor the investigation. It is easy to sit in your comfortable environment and type out accusations on your key board, which any reasonable person would see thru you. Take care and next time you have an emergency,,, dont call 911, solve it yourself.

mlr3, you are so right about this: "A few years ago, there was another woman murdered in her home under strange circumstances. A man was convicted of this crime, but many people here in Lee county feel he was not the one responsible. The dead womans husband is the son of the lead investigator is this case. Maybe the evidence will appear or disappear depending on where the guilt lies." Here is hoping Capt. Smith will do a better job with this case.
