The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has canceled a Silver Alert for a missing Wilson man.

Gilbert Gene Finch, 74, believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, was last seen Wednesday at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Starship Lane in Wilson.

Finch was discovered by a Wilson police officer at 7:20 p.m. less than a mile from his home.  He was dehydrated and fatigued.

Finch was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.

they should call these blue hair alerts! at least they don't "cry wolf" as much as they do with the Amber Alerts. Or is that the orange alerts???

Wow, by the number of silver alerts, it's concluded that people in this state sure do a bad job of watching after their elders or other sickly individuals.

Mr. Finch's family should have to pay the expenses involved in covering for their ineptitude.

I live just around the corner from Mr. Finch and although I don't know him personally, I did see the people of Wilson come togethor to try and locate Mr. Finch. I must say the employee's of several departments within the City of Wilson did an OUTSTANDING job today!! Wilson has alot of bad news to report normally but I am thrilled that today Mr. Finch's family can be relieved that he has been found. I am glad he is safe!

glad he's safe
