Hillsborough, N.C. — A Raleigh lawyer has been charged with shooting an Orange County man outside the man's home last week, authorities said Tuesday.
David Henry Rogers, 73, of 1108 Shetland Court, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
William Anthony Ralston was shot in the abdomen on July 9 and was found along Wheeler Church Road in northern Orange County by a Person County deputy, authorities said. Ralston remained in critical condition Tuesday at Person County Hospital.
A neighbor of Ralston's told authorities he heard a gunshot and went to Ralston's house, where he saw a man walking in the driveway. The neighbor asked the man if he had heard the shot, and the man said he hadn't as he climbed into a Ford Taurus and drove off, authorities said.
Ralston was found a short distance from his driveway, authorities said.
The shooting remains under investigation, and more charges could be filed, authorities said.
