Raleigh, N.C. — State law enforcement officers handed out nearly 2,000 DWI citations statewide during a 10-day operation around the July Fourth holiday, the Governor's Office said Thursday.
During "Booze It & Loose It: Operation Firecracker," which ran June 27 to July 6, law enforcement officers issued 66,738 traffic and criminal citations and conducted 5,724 sobriety checkpoints and patrols.
Of the 1,986 citations for driving while impaired, Wake County accounted for 132, Mecklenburg County for 114, and Robeson and New Hanover counties for 61 each.
Officers arrested 534 wanted people and recovered 85 stolen vehicles.
They also cited motorists for 6,549 safety-belt and 1,075 child-passenger safety violations, 20,301 speeding violations and 1,256 drug offenses.

Absolutely correct. ON the one hand you have people that continually push for tougher laws, and its already tough. They want to make someone at the low end of the legal limit(.08) a felon and face capital punishment. ON the other hand, you have stores selling it on every corner, and the state running the liquor stores and making a profit. Crucifying someone who had a couple of beers at a picnic is not solving the drunk driving problem.
Someone needs to realize that the repeat offenders usually have a real illness and need help, and its not necessarily a moral flaw. These people need help, and forcing AA and stupid mental health programs down their throat isn't going to help them. They aren't going to get help until they are ready.

Doesn't matter, cause even a few beers have caused deaths.
The courts will certainly be busy. Praying they remember where the book is so they can toss it at these folks.
And praying these folks all get the message loud and clear.
