The Durham County Sheriff's Bomb Squad was called to investigate after a man thought he found a live mortar shell.

The shell was transported by vehicle to the Hillsborough Police Department just after 5 p.m. Sunday. Officers blocked off North Churton Street, from West King to West Tryon streets, for a couple of hours while the shell was removed from the man's car.

The mortar-like shell was discovered near a construction site. It was later determined to be a military training shell that posed no danger.
