Bouncers charged with attempted murder

William Mabe, bouncer charged in Tiki Lounge assault in Sanford

Two bouncers at a Sanford bar have been charged with beating a customer with a metal chair and a pipe, police said.

William Nicholas Mabe, 30, of Sanford, and John Mark Evans, 31, of Holly Springs, were each charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Mabe was being held in the Lee County Jail without bond, and a $10,000 bond was set for Evans, police said.

Loren Dale Rose was beaten with a chair and a metal pipe at the Tiki Lounge, 105 E. Main St., on June 15, police said. He was taken to Central Carolina Hospital and was later transferred to UNC Hospitals, in Chapel Hill.

There was no word on Rose's condition Tuesday.

Police said they expect to charge a third person in the case.
