Deputy Stanley Rodwell of the Halifax County sheriff's office stumbled upon marijuana worth more than a quarter-million dollars Sunday.

Rodwell was out for a walk when he discovered multiple plots of marijuana plants in a wooded area near Littleton. Rodwell and others seized 115 plants and some other items used in the cultivation of the crop.

Richard Long Braswell, 22, and Douglas Wayne Braswell Jr., 31, were arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The brothers were released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

According to the North Carolina National Guard, the value of a mature marijuana plant is estimated at $2,400. By that calculation, the plants seized Sunday had a potential street value of $276,000.

Sometimes it's just better to be a lucky Officer than use good ole police work.

"manufacturing marijuana"? gives new meaning to the idea of working in a "manufacturing plant".

"I just stumbled (on private property) and discovered something chief. Guess property rights now don't mean anything."

I understand what you're saying here. Something sounds a little fishy, but the law is the law and these guys were on the wrong side of it.

God bless.

I just stumbled (on private property) and discovered something chief. Guess property rights now don't mean anything.

The bigger issue here is that neither the State nor Federal governments have any authority to regulate what substances you grow, or what substances you (where "you" is a consenting adult) choose to ingest into your body.

We need an immediate repeal of all State laws regulating the growth, possession, sale and use of all medicines, drugs and related substances by adults, and an immediate moratorium on the use of State and Local law enforcement personnel to enforce Federal laws regarding the same.
