Creswell, N.C. — Emergency crews evacuated 40 Washington County homes Wednesday after a 1,000-acre wildfire came toward the area.
No homes were damaged. Crews evacuated the homes near Newland Road and Shore Drive as a precaution, officials said.
Homeowners planned to meet with emergency management Wednesday morning to find out when they could return home.
