I've gotten calls from my buddies on the fire line and it's pretty bad out there. I'm in TX workin fires down here for 2 weeks. That area used to have 50,000 and 100,000 up till 20 years ago on a fairly reg basis.

I came out from the Northern California Service Center (Redding) and spent 4 weeks in the swamps between Morgans Corner and Fairfield. When that muck dries and becomes dry peat, the only thing you can do is try and fill the swamp back up. Never realized that many critters lived in them woods! They were going every which way!

Local news is reporting the fire jumped the line last night - 9,500 acres now. WITN radar is picking up the smoke, which is causing problems all the way to Suffolk and the OBX. ghimmy51 - Too bad many folks think that anything actually exists between I-95 and the beach... nccu94 - we may very well know each other. I remember folks talking about some firefighters getting trapped with their backs to the Lake and having to wade in (during the 80's fire), along with every species of animal imaginable coming right behind them. They were having to beat away snakes with their helmets and such.

WolfPacker93 - I remember that. Ash was falling like it was show. It was falling over to the Red&White off of HWY 64.

Now THIS is news we can use. Many have relatives or property down there ... but what coverage is top here? Answer: a budge we have no input into.
