A 21-year-old Raleigh man faces drunken-driving and felony hit-and-run charges after a wreck that injured six people on Sunday.

Daniel Lightbourne, of 450 Glenbrook Drive, was also charged with three felony counts of serious injury by vehicle, two counts of having an open container and one count of filing a false police report.

Police said Lightbourne was going west on Cross Link Road toward Garner Road shortly after midnight when he drove left of center to pass a 2006 Dodge car.

The driver of the Dodge, Lashonda Gist, 20, of Raleigh, started to turn left onto Seabrook Drive. The front of Lightbourne's 1996 Mitsubishi car smashed into the driver's side of the Dodge, according to the wreck report.

Two passengers in the back seat of the Dodge – including a 14-year-old boy – were ejected from the car.

All six people involved in the wreck – both drivers, three passengers in the Dodge and one in the Mitsubishi – sustained injuries. All were transported to WakeMed in Raleigh.

Police said Lightbourne fled the scene of the accident, but officers located and arrested him.

The police report says that Lightbourne was going 63 mph before the wreck and driving on the left side of the road. He slowed to 40 mph at the point of impact and left tire impressions for 142 feet.

Gist was traveling at the 35-mph speed limit before the wreck and going 15 mph at the point of impact.

The two back-seat passengers were not wearing seat belts, according to the wreck report.

Lightbourne was on probation for a February conviction on drug charges, according to state Department of Correction records.

YET ANOTHER tragic DWI wreck in Raleigh!! Go figure...Guess we should all be proud of our great Wake County Judges and Defense Attornies who help put them right back on the street driving over and over again!

A nother hit and run withen 2 days a part.Glad they caught this one..

Glad all will eventually be ok. Wondering 2 things: Was Ms. Gist using her turn signals? How many in both vehicles were wearing seat belts?

Lightbourne was on probation for a February conviction on drug charges.

put him in the poo-key to serve the time on the drug charge and then add the time for the DWI charge. Don't let them run concurrent.

Sounds like wearing seatbelts would have helped. The rear passengers should have been wearing them as well. Give tickets to the responsible parties.
