Durham, N.C. — Durham police on Wednesday arrested a second man and charged him with murder in connection with a fatal shooting last month.
Members of the police department’s Selective Enforcement Team arrested Jonathan Herrera, 22, of 319 Gray Avenue, near his house.
On April 19, officers responding to calls about a possible gunshot wound found a man lying in a parking lot at 9 Welch Place.
The man, identified as Joel Perez, 22, of Hopkins Street, had been shot in the head, police said. He was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died.
Luis Vargas, 17, of Welch Place, was also charged with murder in the shooting.
Police said Perez and Vargas were acquaintances. It was unclear if Perez and Herrera knew each other.
