Tarboro residents win battle to ban adult bookstore

Plans for the Majestic Adult Center, an adult book and video store taking over the old Majestic Theatre, shook Tarboro earlier this year.

Residents and neighboring business owners raised such a fuss that Majestic owner Ronnie Wiggins decided in March to abandon his plans for the store.

Town leaders passed a new zoning ordinance Tuesday to preclude another attempt.

The law would not allow adult establishments within 1,000 feet of day cares, schools, parks, churches and residential areas.

Once again, this society has allowed the prudes to trample on freedom. It's a sad commentary on our society that we allow, and even support, real (boxing for example) or simulated (movies, video games, etc) violence against others, but get all bothered at the thought of seeing someone in the skin they were born with.

I'm just so annoyed by this. A friend of mine used to work at one of these stores when we were in college. He would tell about all of our profs. and administrators that would come in the store. So the "who's" that some of you are talking about are not dirty people.

Enoughsenough...husbands may be afraid their WIVES will go in there. One would be ignorant to assume it is only "women" who are against this. Might just be a family thang...hmm?

Where is the freedom of choice? If you want to go, go. If you don't like it, don't go. The store windows, as pictured, posed no threat of anyone seeing something "bad". "Cartman" said it right. "Why do people get so uptight about this? Just because some people don't want it, nobody should have access to it?"

Wives are afraid their husbands may go inside.
