Site SearchPlans for the Majestic Adult Center, an adult book and video store taking over the old Majestic Theatre, shook Tarboro earlier this year.
Residents and neighboring business owners raised such a fuss that Majestic owner Ronnie Wiggins decided in March to abandon his plans for the store.
Town leaders passed a new zoning ordinance Tuesday to preclude another attempt.
The law would not allow adult establishments within 1,000 feet of day cares, schools, parks, churches and residential areas.
