Durham, N.C. — Investigators on Friday charged a man and woman with  stealing credit cards from a woman who was visiting a patient at Duke University Hospital.

Cynthia A. Glenn, 22, of Maplewood Drive, and Timothy Jovan Tate, 21, of Delano Street, each face three counts of identity theft and three counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

Police said numerous tips from the public led them to identify Glenn as the woman wearing blue hospital scrubs and seen using the credit cards. Officers believe Tate is the man seen accompanying her in surveillance video from another store, where the cards were also used.

The victim was visiting a terminally ill child in at Duke on April 25 when several credit cards were stolen from her purse, which had been left in a hospital room, police said.

The thief then ran up about $90,000 in charges on the cards at Belk, Wal-Mart, Apple and convenience stores in Durham, Raleigh, Wake Forest and Knightdale, police said.
