A pickup truck slammed into a tree and a power pole early Thursday, authorities said.

Billy Ray Lichlyter was southbound on Old Stage Road at about 4:50 a.m. when he fell asleep, ran off the left side of the road near the intersection of Poplar Springs Church Road and struck a tree and a utility pole owned by Progress Energy, authorities said.

About 100 Progress Energy customers were without power as of 7:30 a.m.

Lichlyter was taken to WakeMed for treatment of minor injuries.

He was charged with reckless driving and driving left of center, authorities said.

That's what happens when you fill up on ethanol!

I'm surprised it wasn't one of those reckless SUVs! Those cars are always getting themselves into accidents!

Wow, the article states:

"A pickup truck slammed into a tree and a power pole early Thursday. Sheriff’s officials said they believe alcohol was a factor."

That truck must have had a lot to drink!

I was one of those lucky people without power this morning. Strange feeling to wake with no alarm clock and see light outside- instant panic.
