Raleigh, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina woman has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the overdose death of a teenager two years ago, authorities said.
Tamitha Gilchrist, 42, of 641 Angier Road, is charged in the April 7, 2006, death of Taylor Jacob Klein. The body of the 18-year-old Fuquay-Varina resident was found in a ditch near the intersection of Sweet Springs Road and Cass Holt Road in southern Wake County.
Wake County investigators initially ruled Klein's death an accidental overdose. It wasn't clear Wednesday what evidence led authorities to indict Gilchrist, but Deputy Wake County District Attorney Howard Cummings said it was unusual to charge someone with murder in an overdose death.
Gilchrist, who also goes by the name Tamitha Denise Hicks, was charged last month with trafficking heroin and distributing methadone as part of a lengthy investigation into drug dealing in Fuquay-Varina.
