Saint Augustine’s College plans to open a satellite campus in Henderson’s Gateway Community Development Corp. building.

The campus, slated to open in August, will initially offer bachelor of science degrees in organizational management and criminal justice, officials said.

“Working adults who want to succeed in the present economic climate must pursue a college education. The accelerated program we are offering will provide adult learners in Henderson and the surrounding communities with the opportunity to earn a college degree in three years or less without disrupting their daily lives,” said Joyce Blackwell, dean of the Division of Social Sciences at Saint Aug's.

Henderson Mayor Pete O’Geary called the satellite a boost for the city.

“I think it will have a tremendous impact on the city and its citizens,” O’Geary said. “I think it’s a very positive step in the right direction. I’m so happy that Saint Augustine’s College noticed this and decided to come here with a satellite.”

An information session about the initiative was scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gateway Community Development Corp., at 314 S. Garnett St.
