I-95 South Temporarily Closed in Smithfield

print friendly

The state Department of Transportation will temporarily close Interstate 95 South in Smithfield just north of Exit 95 at Brogden Road on Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., weather permitting.

The closures are necessary to replace a damaged beam in the Brogden Road Bridge over I-95.

The damaged beam will be removed Tuesday, and a new beam will be installed April 29. Another beam, which has been helping support the bridge since the original beam was damaged, will continue to be in place until the permanent beam.

During construction, a signed detour will be in place.

Motorists traveling south on I-95 will be directed to turn right onto an access road connecting them to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, which runs parallel to I-95. Motorists will travel south on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, cross over Brogden Road and continue to the on-ramp back to I-95 South.

Brogden Road will be closed to all other traffic Tuesday and April 29. Motorists wanting to access I-95 South from Brogden Road will be directed to take U.S. Highway 301 South to U.S. Highway. 701 South to I-95 South.

Motorists wanting to access I-95 North from Brogden Road will be directed to take U.S. 301 North to U.S. 70 Business East to I-95 North.

I don't know, always seems to be a problem with that particuliar area of I-95.

Nope... NCSHP's fault for not stopping the dummy that crashed into the bridge (dripping sarcasm) I do wonder why they couldn't do the replacement at night when traffic volume is lower though...

"Its W's fault, no federal money left for infrastructure"

Never mind the fact that spending is controlled by Congress, never let fact get in the way of a good rant!

I thought Brogden Road was exit 93, and 70 Business was exit 95.
