Site SearchDurham, N.C. — Police have arrested a suspect in the Saturday morning shooting death of a man in Durham.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m., officers responding to calls about a possible gunshot wound found a man lying in a parking lot at 9 Welch Place. The man, identified as Joel Perez, 22, of Hopkins Street, had been shot in the head, police said.
Perez was transported to Duke University Hospital, where he died.
Luis Vargas, 17, of Welch Place, was charged with murder in the shooting. He was being held in the Durham County Jail without bond on Saturday evening.
Police said Perez and Vargas were acquaintances.
