Garner, N.C. — Residents can log on to the Garner Police Department Web site to search crimes by location, violation and date.
The online crime map, developed by department Webmaster Lieutenant Chris Hagwood uses Google Maps and colored markers to show details of each crime. It has all the capabilites common to online mapping tools, including the ability to scroll, zoom and select a level of detail.
Garner Police have used crime maps internally in the past, Hagwood said, but the new tool makes that information available to the public for the first time.
